Irrational fans giving up on a coach 18-20 months into his tenure? Game related, my BG friends will generally say that when Wiggins is 'on', they're pretty good, but if he's not, they struggle. At least we wait for a coach 40 months into his tenure before we start questioning the direction of the program. Boy.no patience from that fanbase. We only wait for a coach 40 months into his tenure before we start questioning the direction of the program. Up there it sounds like the general direction of the entire athletic department.

So maybe we're not so bad. 'Puppies, walks in the park, March wins; those are all my favorite things.'

Six of their top eight scorers are Freshmen or Sophomores. Hoping we can lock them down defensively and force them into some mistakes. Keep Wiggins under wraps a little bit and don't allow kick outs for open shots. 'Puppies, walks in the park, March wins; those are all my favorite things.'

BG defense is poor. They give up an adjusted 110.1 points per 100 possessions, 282nd in the country. Ohio's defense, by comparison, is at 103.4 (147th nationally). The Falcons don't defend the three well, allowing 36.6% (253rd).

They don't defend the two much better allowing 51.2% (236th). BG offense is below average but better than Ohio's. BG scores 102.5/100 (211th). Ohio is at 100.3 (244). The Falcons shoot the 3 well (36.7% to rank 96th) but not the two (44.7% to rank 322nd). Follow Ohio Football recruiting on the. Hopefully that allows Jordy, Gavin and Mike to get into a rhythm from beyond the arc. Maybe even Jimmy, TK and Zach too. 'Puppies, walks in the park, March wins; those are all my favorite things.'

I've seen him have good days and really bad days at the line.

Even with that, they had to hold off a furious rally late. Where they nearly blew and 11 point lead in the last 3 mins. Ohio hasn't really proven to be a good road team. This is a winnable game. And one they desperately need to have any chance at keeping their slim hopes alive for a top four seed or even a home opening round game in the MAC tourney.

And it's looking more and more likely they'll be on the road for the MAC tourney and that's no bueno. Dartis and Laster have to be in pain because neither will shoot the darn ball. Even Frye had a step back 3. Tell me Dartis couldn't make 3 out of 10 step back 3s in a game if he took them? Gareri and Gollon look like they belong as managers. They even start down court before the ball reaches the rim on our foul shots.

The offense has lost all semblance of team play as well. Part of the poor shooting is bad shot selection and that is really lack of good opportunities.

I feel for them since they’re all trying. Hopefully next year we can develop a presence underneath which would go a long way toward improving play at both ends. That 6-11, 150 pound guy out of North Carolina (the 3167th ranked high school senior in America) averages a couple of blocked shots per game, so all should be well. That is against high school competition and he is 6-11. Taylor works very hard, but he just can't do it alone.

He and Carter together underneath would give this team a completely different look. I think many here are really not correctly assessing the impact that Carter's injury is having on this team. This is two years in a row that our top 'big guy' has received a season ending injury.

Not making excuses - just stating facts. I'm not ready to throw Saul to the wolves as some on here are. And dreams of basketball glory!

From the guy who thought we had ten all MAC players back in the summer. Did you forget your meds again?

That's like.hard to do. Then again it's hard to get an assist when you can't shoot. And this was against a sub par defensive team.

As Lee Corso would say 'yo!' This season is a lost cause. Of that we're now well aware. The question is, can SP save enough confidence and teach enough to carry something.ANYTHING over to build for next year.

Coaches can weather a horrendous season like this as long as they find ways to improve, build and bounce back. I hope like heck Saul figures that out or his daughter might not be graduating from Athens HS after all. If this team didn't snag Kirk in the late period they might not win another game. General User Member Since: 1/9/2005 Location: Cincinnati, OH Post Count: 1,348 Status: Offline RE: Official Game 21 Thread: Bowling Green Posted: 1/31/2018 9:49:01 AM I think wins will be few and far between on the back side of this season. A lot of MAC teams will relish the chance to get some licks in after having been on the receiving end more often then not against Ohio. Question is, how fast can this nosedive be corrected? The number of double-digit defeats in conference play has been so disheartening.

Losing games is one thing, but to get hammered consistently against schools that are not at a large advantage is inexcusable. While this year has been the hardest to watch, I personally don't feel that Saul Phillips' total body of work justifies a contract extension at this point, especially given his level of compensation and other resources. If I were the AD I would have a conversation with him at the end of this season that next year will be an audition for the future of his career in Athens. Anything short of the 20 win range, with a top 1/3 finish in the MAC I think it would be best to part ways. If you are paying championship level dollars, you should be getting championship level results. I know there have been injury challenges, but even at full strength I don't think the Cats would be much higher than the.500 level. I know great coaches don't just grow on trees but I think the results over the past four seasons (including this one) could be achieved by others for a lower price.

To say that the product put out has been underwhelming given the high hopes and expectations when SP was hired is an understatement. Whatever formula he was using in Fargo it hasn't worked in Athens. I've seen enough of SaulBall in its current form to decide that it's not cut out to have Ohio Basketball at a (MAC) championship level. Something needs to be changed up beyond having a healthy roster. I really hope that they can get this figured out and that this time next year the Cats are priming up for a strong run in March and that SP is not on his way to coaching at Rhinelander Community College.
